So I want to learn how to trad climb.  Is there anyone here who would be willing to take me to the City and let me follow them up some rocks?
Maybe we could make a forum trip out of it.

I have a friend who is a trad friend but can never find anyone to go to the City. This may seem kind of weird giving you his number but he is a very approachable guy who loves to meet and climb with new people. His name is Matt, his # is 542-6149 and he lives here in Idhao Falls. Give him a try.

The Idaho State University Outdoor Program (OP) holds an advanced climbing class in the spring semester as well as an advanced climbing worksop in the summer. The class takes place at Ross Park. The workshop is one weekday evening in Pocatello and then a Saturday and Sunday at the City.

Unfortunately the Workshop was at the beginning of this month. The OP also has Open Climbing every Thursday at 5:00PM till dark at Ross Park (at this time of year they are on the Shady Side). Anyway, there is a group of people that are really nice and willing to befriend fellow climbers. You can usually hook up with a weekend trip to Massacre Rocks or the City/Castle Rocks area.

The OP can be reached at www.isu.edu/outdoor or at (208) 282-3912.

So with the day time temps geting up to 51 degrees, and blue bird skys, I decided to zip over to the City after work today. I picked the kids up from school, and inside an hour we were at Elephant Rock. For the first time in my life, I didn't see one other person while at the City. We ran up 3 routes, pulled the ropes and had a blast. Kids were home in time to get home work done and eat some chow.
Roads were mostly dry. Near Kaiser's Helmet there was a puddle that crossed the whole road. Snow and ice is still found on many Northern and Eastern faces. Upper Bread Loaves would be great but I didn't get that high. If your Ok with Patigonia type conditions (no I've never climbed there, but one day), I think you could have a great time. For now take a long sleeve shirt, and a wool hat, and get ready to have the place to yourselves. Yes the rock was cold enough to numb your skin, but not like ice climbing and the screemiong barfies. If that is a concern, throw a thermal hot pack thing in your chalk bag.
