City of Rocks is expanding!

News4 Comments »

When one thinks of the City of Rocks they usually think of beautiful trad lines, sick run-out slab, and superb sport routes.  Boulders get passed by with out a second thought.  As of lately a new craze of climbers have been penetrating City, the pebble wrestlers.  Craig Hurst, a Boise local, has been at the forefront of this new wave establishing to date only a few double digit problems with more yet to come!

City of Rocks and Castle Rocks

Brad Shilling sent in a quick report of what is going on at the City and Castles:

Not much news from the City or Castles. Dave’s new guide to
Castles is out, and available at the local shops and the park visitor
center in Almo. Only two new recorded routes have gone up in quite some
time… Dave’s new one right of the Splitter on Comp Wall “No Competition”
(5.11) and a new one to the left of “North Face” and “Milk Toast” on Lone
Rock courtesy of Chris Barnes. I think it is called “No Climb For Old Men”
(5.10). Things are hot and slow here in the desert.

It is always cool to hear about new routes. Routers, put in a ton of time, effort, and money to create great climbing assets for all of us. If you know any route developers be sure to thank them and consider throwing a little cash, a box of hangers, or some bolts their way. Also, Brad has done an exceptional job for all climbers at these areas. Thanks to all of them!
