Aaron Hjelt, USAClimbing Big Sky Region coordinator, has asked that we post the USAClimbing 2011 Big Sky Youth Climbing Competition Schedule:

  • March 12 – Boise, ID, Urban Ascent
  • April 2 – Pocatello, ID, ISU Reed Gym
  • April 9 – Sandy, UT, Momentum
  • April 16 – Bozeman, MT, Spire Climbing Center
  • April 30 – Billings, MT, Steepworld
  • May 7 – Provo, UT, The Quarry
  • May 14 – Big Sky Region Finals, Bozeman, MT, Spire Climbing Center
  • June 11-12 – Division 1 Finals, Sandy, UT, Momentum
  • July 7-10 – SCS Youth National Championships, Atlanta, GA, Stone Summit

Events are open to all!

Entry fees are between $25-$35 plus $5 for non-USAC members.

Please contact the host gym for more info on each event.

Dierkes Lake Clean & Crank

The first ever Dierkes Lake Clean & Crank will take place at 8:30 AM on Saturday, May 14. The event is scheduled to last until 6:30 PM.

There will be a clean up of the climbing area from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Park entrance fees will be waived for those volunteering for the clean-up.

At noon a bouldering competition will begin. Registration for the bouldering competition will be $15 with proceeds going towards the Anchor Replacement Initiative and Access Fund. Awards and swag raffle will commence at 5:30 PM.

Counterfeit Versions of Petzl Products

It looks like there are counterfeit versions of some Petzl products out in the wild. It is assumed the counterfeits are coming out of China and are very difficult to discern from the real thing. The unfortunate thing, besides the stolen intellectual property, is they do not meet any of the safety standards. For the complete story visit Petzl’s web site.
