New Routes at the City of Rocks

NewsNo Comments »

Dave Bingham reports that there are three new routes at the City of Rocks. The routes are at the Upper Breadloaves-West, left of Aspen Leaf and adjacent to Bad Crack.

These routes went through the permitting process with the Reserve, which involves approval from a Natural Resources Specialist, Cultural Resources Specialist, Climbing Ranger, and the Park Superintendent. Despite being on flat ground, 30 feet from the road, and adjacent to existing routes it took several months to gain approval for these routes.

The routes are as follows:

  • Built for Comfort, 5.10a – Eight bolts to chain anchors, left of Bad Crack
  • Muffin Top, 5.9 – Eight bolts to chain anchors, right of Bad Crack
  • Love Handles, 5.9 – To the right of Muffin Top is a route-in-progress which uses the same top anchor as Muffin Top

These routes should offer a alternative to the oft crowded “under 5.10″ routes at the City of Rocks.

Thanks to Dave for this report and all his efforts for our climbing community!
